What we do at ALN

At ALN, we work alongside national and local stakeholders—civil society, local authorities, INGOs, funders, and donors, to deliver tailored technical support and capacity-building services that enables them to respond more effectively to conflict, violence, humanitarian crises, and the challenges of urbanisation.

Rooted in the knowledge and lived realities of our diverse network of Global South women practitioners, we co-develop holistic solutions that are grounded in local context and geared toward long-term, systemic change. By integrating the humanitarian-development-peace nexus into all aspects of our work, we recognise that the issues faced in crisis settings are deeply interconnected and cannot be addressed in isolation. Our work strengthens leadership, governance, and institutional resilience—supporting local actors to lead their own recovery, adapt to changing dynamics, and advance alternative, decolonial responses that reflect local priorities and knowledge systems.

OUR SERVICES

Co-creating locally-driven programs tailored to community needs

We co-design interventions that reflect local realities, priorities, and ambitions. Our experts bring deep contextual knowledge and trusted relationships to the table, ensuring every process is grounded, inclusive, and led from the bottom up.

Empowering INGOs and Donors for Locally-Led Change

We guide INGOs and donors in transitioning from top-down approaches to locally-led models. By focusing on community ownership and participatory design, we help build programs that drive long-term, sustainable change.

Adaptive, Impact-Driven Learning

We prioritise flexible, bottom-up learning grounded in Indigenous knowledge. In partnership with local actors, we ensure learning responds to their priorities, not external agendas. This adaptive approach enables real-time shifts, keeping programs relevant and community-driven.

Advocacy Capacity-Building

We support local communities with the tools to lead their own advocacy efforts. Through tailored resources, workshops on advocacy planning, policy design, and stakeholder engagement, we build on the capacity of local partners to shape their own narratives and influence impactful change.

Promoting Local Leadership

We centre the leadership of local actors—especially women—so that decisions are grounded in lived realities and informed by direct experience. Our approach challenges sector norms by establishing local leadership as the standard. This reclaims agency for those most affected by crisis and ensures they lead in shaping effective, lasting solutions.
